Functionalized Membranes
Functionalized membranes combine the advantages of membrane
technology (e.g. high porosity, low diffusion resistance, high convective mass
transport) with various functionalities introduced by the ELIOD technology. In
this way these membranes allow efficient separation, purification and isolation
of diverse (bio)molecules by means of solid phase
extraction, ionic exchange and specific affinity chromatography.
Surface functionalization of
various membrane types, e.g. microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and capillary pore membranes, composed of
different base materials, particularly poly(ether) sulphone, polypropylene, polyamide, and polyester allow
custom-made solutions.
Adjusted pore structure, density of functional groups, and
optimized hydrophilicity enable maximum performance
either with respect to binding capacity (reversible or covalent) or volumetric
through-put.
Affinity Membranes
ELIOD has developed surface functionalized membranes based on
polypropylene or polyamide with highly reactive epoxy groups available for
established and novel applications as
- membrane adsorber
- affinity separation, purification, isolation and detection
in various formats, e.g. spin columns,
filterplates, syringe prefilters,
or membrane sheets, either as (Dot)Blot-membrane or for assembling in modules.

Membranes assembled in the various formats ensure an easy,
safe and quick handling of the covalent immobilization step of the capture
receptor molecule and the subsequent binding, washing and elution of the
purification procedure.
Ion Exchange Membranes
ELIOD has developed surface functionalized microfiltration membranes made from polyamide applicable
for the separation of biomolecules based on their net
charge. Permanent or temporary charged functional groups (corresponding to
strong or weak ion exchangers) with adjustable density and, therefore,
capacity, were covalently attached onto the entire inner membrane surface area
using the ELIOD technology, yielding either negatively charged cation or positively charged anion exchangers respectively.
Assembling of several flat sheet membranes with arranged
geometric area into chromatography housings give way to functional
chromatography units with adjusted chromatographic volume, scaled and adapted
to user-specific separation problems.
Manufacturing of special affinity membranes
(flat-sheet) in a scale of up to 1 m2/ day (batches) is possible with ELIOD's facilities (continuous functionalization
is planned for 10 m2/ day).
ELI_PLATE - Functionalized MicroPlates
ELIOD has developed functional microtitre
plates (ELI_PLATES) with a unique architecture of
functional layers. In order to address user-specific applications, various
polymer materials with different formats and optical properties as
- U, F or V format
- transparent, turbid or black
are available with carboxyl, amino or
epoxy functionality.
Typical applications are:
- multiple sample preparation
- separation assays
- binding of biomolecules (e.g. proteins, nucleic acids) and downstream assays
- drug screening
- solid phase immunoassays
Functional microtitre plate with a
carboxyl "tentacle" polymer (35 nmol/well)
layer stained with a carboxyl-reactive dye in order to demonstrate the very
even and reproducible distribution over the well surface and from well to well.

ELI_CAPS
Plastic Capillaries for qPCR
Safer, easier, cheaper qPCR
Non breaking plastic capillaries
ELIOD GmbH has developed a comfortable solution for
frequently breaking PCR glass capillaries. When using these optical plastic
capillaries you are avoiding the risk of breaking, contamination and injury,
especially when working with infectious agents.
Sample preparation
The same procedure like for the original glass capillaries
can be used for the sample preparation.
Transfer pin
For more comfortable handling of the capillaries and the caps
a special transfer pin can be used. With this transfer pin you can take and
hold the caps as well as the capillaries handle them as usual, but more
comfortable.
Higher and flexible reaction volume
Because of the special design of the tubes between 10 and 50
µl reaction mix can be used, which allows you to
add more sample DNA at the same time.
Post reaction sample recovery
In principle, the recovery of the sample is possible using
pipettes with a 10 µl pipette, alternatively you
can cut the capillaries using scissors and spin the solution into a reaction
tube.
Innovative packaging for optimal handling
qPCR-capillaries
from ELIOD are shipped in a rackbox. The rackbox contains 2 stackracks,
one rack with 96 qPCR-capillaries and one rack with
96 caps for qPCR-capillaries.
DNase, RNase and Pyrogen
free
ELI_CAP qPCR-capillaries and
capillary-caps are certified DNase, RNase and Pyrogen free.
Universal rotor-adapter for best alignment
For the optical plastic capillaries ELIOD has developed a
special universal adapter-rotor. This special rotor holds the capillaries
tightly in place. By using the rotor-adapter the capillaries are always
correctly aligned with the optical detection kit and will not fall out of the
rotor when handling correctly.

leaders. GC-rich template DNA, or Multiplex DNA PCR is no problem and will
give good and reliable results.
